Transarterial Embolization of a Ruptured Renal Angiomyolipoma
A 38-year-old man with no known relevant medical history presented with right flank pain of sudden onset. The patient had no history of trauma. On examination, his right abdomen showed tenderness on palpitation. Computed tomography of the abdomen with intravenous contrast showed a heterogeneous 13×9 cm mass on the right kidney containing adipose tissue and perirenal hematoma (Picture 1). A diag...
متن کاملUrgent arterial embolization of ruptured renal angiomyolipoma
The most undesired complication of renal angiomyolipoma (AML) is bleeding. Because of tumor rupture, the bleeding can spread to the retroperitoneal field and can be severe enough to be life threatening. We report a case of retroperitoneal hemorrhage caused by a ruptured AML that was successfully treated with transarterial embolization with N-butyl cyanoacrylate.

INTRODUCTION Transarterial embolization is increasingly used in the management of renal angiomyolipoma. The level of evidence establishing the safety and efficacy of transarterial embolization has not increased in parallel. MATERIALS AND METHODS Using the MOOSE (Meta-analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology) criteria a systematic review of transarterial embolization of angiomyolipoma...
متن کاملStaged Hepatic Resection for Ruptured HCC after Successful Transarterial Embolization
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth leading cause of cancer worldwide and is the second leading cause of cancer-related death; most of the HCC disease burden is found in Asia and Africa due to hepatitis B (HBV) or C (HCV) infection (Jemal et al., 2011). The overall prognosis of HCC remains disappointing. Due to the hypervascularity of this disease, HCC can exhibit rapid progression, dir...
متن کاملReview of renal artery embolization for treatment of renal angiomyolipoma
Renal angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign renal neoplasm with the exception of the rare epithelioid variant. AML may be sporadic or may be associated with tuberous sclerosis complex or pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis. Risk of hemorrhage is the concern for patients with AML. Renal artery embolization (RAE) is the treatment of choice for acute hemorrhage from angiomyolipoma, and also firstline pr...
